Paul Overgaauw graduated as DVM at the University of Utrecht in 1985. He worked as veterinary practitioner five years and after that as Technical Manager in the pharmaceutical- and companion animal nutrition industries. He completed his PhD in 1997 and was registered as a specialist in veterinary microbiology and acknowledged as parasitologist.
In 2011, Paul became ACVM diplomate (American College of Veterinary Microbiologists). Currently, he is a part-time assistant professor at the Division of Veterinary Public Health at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Utrecht and acts as a consultant in the field of veterinary parasitology and zoonoses.
Paul Overgaauw has published widely and authored and co-authored several books and book chapters. He participated in the Editorial Board of the Dutch Veterinary Journal for 9 years and served as Chairman and Secretary of several veterinary committees and organizations (at present he is Director of the European Scientific Counsel Companion Animal Parasites, ESCCAP).
